Our Capability

Lines that carry the energy transition

High-voltage transmission lines are how renewable energy zones reach the cities and industry that depend on them — and how networks stay reliable as the generation mix changes.

Elecnor Australia delivers overhead and underground transmission lines as a full EPC scope — from route selection and easement engineering through tower design and supply, civil foundation works, structure erection, stringing, OPGW and energisation.

Our work spans 33 kV through to 500 kV in lattice, monopole and guyed-tower configurations, including Australia's first 500 kV Danubio towers on the Dinawan-to-Wagga Wagga section of EnergyConnect. We're equally at home on long-span interconnectors, REZ enabling lines, and shorter renewable connection assets.

Backed by Elecnor Group's track record of more than 15,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines built globally, our local teams combine that engineering and supply-chain depth with regional crews, First Nations participation, and the landholder relationships every Australian corridor needs.

What We Build

Lines across the network

From new-build interconnectors to renewable connection assets and brownfield uprates — designed for the corridor and constructed to operator standards.

01 — Interconnectors & Backbone

Long-span EHV transmission

Multi-hundred-kilometre 330 kV and 500 kV corridors connecting states and renewable energy zones — including Australia's largest interconnector.

  • Single & double-circuit 330 / 500 kV
  • Lattice steel, Danubio & monopole
  • OPGW & communications integration
  • Easement engineering & access
02 — Renewables Connection

Generator & storage feeders

Connecting lines for wind, solar and battery projects to the grid — delivered alongside the connection-asset substation as a single package.

  • 132 / 220 / 275 kV overhead
  • Underground cable sections
  • Substation-line interface design
  • Generator performance compliance
03 — Upgrades & Refurbishment

Brownfield uprates & rebuilds

Capacity uplifts, asset-renewal projects and line refurbishments — including replacement of legacy 220 kV corridors with modern designs.

  • Live-line working coordination
  • Outage planning & staged hand-back
  • Reconductoring & HTLS upgrades
  • Tower refurbishment & replacement
Tower Types

Structure designs we deliver

Tower selection depends on voltage, span, terrain, line angles and corridor constraints. We engineer and erect each type to operator standards.

330 / 500 kV

Self-supporting lattice

Traditional steel lattice towers — versatile for terrain, angles and longer spans. The workhorse of EHV networks.

Height
40–70 m
Configuration
Double-circuit

500 kV

Danubio (suspension)

Compact V-string design with smaller footprint than traditional lattice — Australia's first 500 kV Danubio towers were erected by us between Dinawan and Wagga Wagga.

Height
~55 m
Configuration
Double-circuit

330 kV

Monopole

Single tubular steel pole — used along the Buronga to Red Cliffs section, where smaller footprint and faster erection benefit the corridor.

Height
30–55 m
Footprint
Compact

330 kV

Guyed

Central steel column held by four 35 mm guy cables — ideal for flat terrain. Up to 60 m high with a 50 × 50 m footprint.

Height
Up to 60 m
Best for
Flat corridors
EPC Scope

From easement to energisation

Five phases of delivery, one accountable team — integrating route engineering, supply chain, civil works, stringing and commissioning.

01

Route & Design

Easement assessment, structure spotting, tower spotting & line-design profile, foundations & geotechnical engineering.

02

Procurement

Tower steel, conductor, OPGW, insulators & hardware sourcing — with factory inspection & logistics planning.

03

Foundations

Drilling, piling and pouring tower foundations — across thousands of structures, often in remote and varied terrain.

04

Erection & Stringing

Tower assembly & erection, conductor stringing, sagging & clipping, OPGW & communications installation.

05

Test & Energise

Pre-commissioning, line testing, hand-over to operator, vegetation clearance & landholder reinstatement.

Project EnergyConnect · NSW

700 km of new transmission across south-western NSW

As Transgrid's construction partner, we're delivering the NSW section of EnergyConnect — Australia's largest transmission project — across four new lines from the South Australian border to Wagga Wagga.

  • 700 km NSW section delivered by Elecnor as EPC partner
  • 1,150 Tower foundations drilled & poured across the eastern alignment
  • 53,000 m³ Concrete in tower foundations
  • 1,600+ Workers on the eastern section at peak construction
"The collaboration with our exceptional civil works and electrical contractors, as well as the construction delivery partners, has been instrumental in advancing activities within the substation and overhead transmission line disciplines." — Felipe Delgado Davara, Elecnor Australia EnergyConnect Project Director

Transmission line construction crew on a regional NSW corridor
$255M Invested in contracts with 325 local and First Nations businesses along the EnergyConnect corridor.
Working in the Corridor

A line is only as good as the communities it crosses

High-voltage corridors run through farmland, First Nations land, regional towns and ecological habitats. We build with that in mind.

  • Landholder & community engagement

Dedicated property liaison, scheduled access, biosecurity protocols and full property reinstatement built into the program.

  • First Nations partnership

Direct contracts with First Nations businesses and workforce participation — visible on EnergyConnect through partners like the Garraway Group.

  • Legacy 100 skills program

Regional skills initiative training new transmission line workers across NSW — building a lasting workforce, not just a project workforce.

  • Local supply chain

Six purpose-built construction camps and millions invested in Riverina, Murray and Sunraysia suppliers across the eastern alignment.
